


In the Sync your OneDrive files to this PC box, check and uncheck the box at Sync all files and folders in my OneDrive. On the Account tab, click Choose folders. On the Auto Save tab, set the Documents and Pictures lists to This PC only, and uncheck the other boxes. On the Settings tab, uncheck all the boxes under General. Select Start, type OneDrive in the search box, and then select OneDrive in the search results. If the icon doesn't appear in the notification area, OneDrive might not be running. This way I don't accidentally delete the file from existence.Note: You might need to click the Show hidden icons arrow next to the notification area to see the OneDrive icon. I don't change the name, and when I want to put it back local after an update, save as>back to local folder and replace the file.

So when I want to "sync" I use the save as and make it a new document and put it in the one drive folder. If you delete a file from the onedrive folder, it will delete from everywhere. Just be careful with deleting files from onedrive. This way you can keep onedrive and back up when you need. I have mine set to 1, so every new backup deletes the old one by default. You can also choose how many backups you want. You can customize how often you backup, from 1 minute to 1 week to never. I personally have my default location be local and backup be my onedrive so I can work offline easier. Normally these settings are defaulted to onedrive. You'll also notice when you log in to any of the apps, autosave is off. Change this to whatever drive/folder you want your default save to be. If the file has a checkmark on it, it means it's both in the cloud and your PC. Your files should have a cloud next to them if they are not on your PC but on the cloud. Go to settings>sync> uncheck every folder (desktop, documents, and pictures). Then go to onedrive, click the little cloud icon in the Taskbar by the clock, it will pull up a little menu. Onedrive will no longer autostart when you turn your device on. If you don't want to remove onedrive, go to settings>apps>startup> disable onedrive.
